- People didn't want to leave because of desire to maintain land... UNTIL
- The Enclosure Movement: The rich people enclosed the land to raise sheep and the poor people were left for nothing.. so they came to the New World
- Primogeniture: only the first son would inherit 100% everything from the dad/family. The 2nd son would be like well fuck it I'm going to the New World
- Entail: kind like primogeniture, laws that were passed telling you who you could pass land to and how much tax you had to pay.
- Surplus Population: about 4 million people... which is not that much comparatively to today...but they thought it was crowed.
- Get rid of undesirables! Just people who were "lewd" and "bad" were just shipped off.
- Protestant Reformation: causes Catholics and Protestants to the new world
- Defeat of the Spanish Armada 1588
- Mistress of the Seas (1588-1935)s
- they controlled the seas which made it easier to get supplies to the new colonies

- Sir Humphrey Gilbert: founded Newfoundland. This failed they all disappeared.
- Sir Walter Raleigh: founded Virginia just by sponsoring it. The first time Sir Francis Drake rescued him, but the second time all that was left was the word "Croatan."
- Virginia Colony of London- April 1607. The third time is the charm! Established Jamestown
James I, Charles I, Oliver Cromwell, Charles II, James II, William and Mary. During the Restoration and Interregnum Period.- Virginia Colony of London promised the people that they would give the people all the rights of an Englishmen IMPORTANT
